Ann Vandervelde
"A successful painting elicits an immediate dialogue between the viewer and itself, sometimes at a deeply spiritual level. In my abstract work, I am attempting to feel, see, and interpret fragments of life that when assembled, create an opportunity for exploration. Painting, like my own experiences has gone through many genres and multiple medias. I have moved from watercolour to collage with poured inks and on to acrylics and oil pastel. I’ve played with papers, Bristol board, and canvas. I am always struck by the complexities of life and I have attempted in my painting to pare down those structures into something simple, readable; an image that the viewer can relate to on a personal level.
