L.A. (Laurel) Hecht's artwork closely examines the natural world around her. As she paints she stretches what she sees into her personal vision of that object. She loves to celebrate the mundane moments as well as the spectacular.
"My artwork exemplifies the symbiotic relationships between art, nature, and us. The three cannot be separated. The elements of a painting, such as paint, paper, canvas, and wood, come from the earth. Minerals that make up our bodies and guide our thought processes come from the earth. All that we are or can ever hope to be is inextricably connected to art and to nature."
Hecht's compositions and painting techniques are part of her signature style coming from over 30 years of painting. All Laurel's images are up-close and extra-large on the canvas. A moth, a flower or two, or fruit take center stage. Her paintings are color over color, layer over layer making her paintings intensely active with color.
In 2004, University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio, hosted a specifically designed exhibit titled "Open Your Majesty." In an interview on Dee Perry's Show, "Around Noon" at NPR Radio, WCPM-Cleveland, Laurel explains the messages of healing she hopes to convey. She says that "The crème de la crème of 'Open Your Majesty' is this: I celebrate nature's majesty and invite you to celebrate yours." |
